Jace Hjermstad

Greater Victoria Green Team Program Manager

Jace hopes to reconnect people with nature and their communities through compassion and kindness, creating inclusive spaces where everyone feels welcome, just as the Greater Victoria Green Team (GVGT) once accomplished for him as a volunteer. In 2018, Jace first joined GVGT’s invasive species removal initiatives and immediately resonated with the organization’s dedication to environmental conservation, education, and community engagement. Since then, he has pursued a career in environmental stewardship, working across federal, provincial, and private sector parks and campgrounds. Jace holds a Bachelor of Arts in Writing from the University of Victoria, where he combined his passion for environmental stewardship with journalism and public outreach. His environmental journalism article for The Climate Disaster Project, published in Asparagus Magazine, earned a Special Recognition Citation at the National Newspaper Awards. He also received a Research Honorarium for his interactive narrative project on B.C. wildfires. Storytelling empowers Jace to highlight local perspectives and foster a deeper understanding of the people and landscapes that shape his community. As of May 2025, Jace proudly serves as GVGT’s Program Manager, and he looks forward to giving back to GVGT’s mission with gratitude and purpose.
