Quarry Park October 20, 2018

The Greater Victoria Green Team with funding support from North Saanich Parks Department, worked to remove English Ivy and plant Douglas-fir trees in Quarry Park!

Thank-you to everyone who participated – you are awesome!  Carwyn, Christie, Jack, John, Matthew, Maioju, Phaedra, Rheona, Ruby, Shealyn, Stewart and Valerie! Plus Jarret and his two sons who are part of the Friends of North Saanich Parks!

Also thank you to the Friends of North Saanich Parks for all the work you do in restoring North Saanich Parks!

Thank you to our in-kind sponsors for providing thank you gifts to our volunteers: LUSH Cosmetics for providing great bath items and HoneyCandles .

Amazing Team of Eco-heroes!

  • 12 GVGT volunteers were engaged and contributed 35 volunteer hours
  • 4 of the volunteers had never removed English Ivy before, while 4 had never planted trees before
  • 10 of the volunteers had never been to Quarry Park before.
  • We removed approximately 6 cubic metres of English Ivy!
  • We revitalized approximately 150 square metres of habitat!
  • We planted 9 Douglas-fir trees!

What volunteers said about their experience

Without this group I wouldn’t have been made aware of the problem of invasive species taking over our public spaces. We need all the help we can get to start to reverse the damage that has been done. We need to spread the knowledge and gather hands to act now.
It is very important to make this a necessary activity in your life. To educate the community and teach them the value of the nature.
