Who We Are
Green Teams of Canada’s (GTC) mission is to connect, build and empower diverse communities through hands-on activities that promote health, well-being and environmental stewardship. GTC’s focus is on people and currently organizes invasive plant removals, native species plantings and litter cleanups, though is not limited to these activities. GTC:
- Facilitates meaningful connections between people
- Connects community members to nature
- Promotes health and well-being
- Supports the development of skills

- Raises environmental awareness
- Encourages an environmental ethic that leads to responsible environmental behaviour (e.g. engagement in conservation)
Who We Are Looking For
10-20 volunteers (8-12 for the Lower Mainland Green Team, 6-8 for the Greater Victoria Green Team) who will lead groups of people at a minimum of 2 Green Team litter cleanups between now and Dec 2024. Additional opportunities to lead will be available in 2025 and beyond.
We are looking for Green Team Litter Leaders who are:
- Passionate about the environment and community
- Positive, outgoing, energetic and have the ability to keep people motivated
- Responsible, reliable and very safety conscious
- Have a good sense of direction and are capable of following maps
- Effective and concise communicators
- Keen to develop new skills sets and produce quality work
- Excited to take quality photos and videos of community members in action
- Organized and great with sticking to a timeline
- Independent, sees what needs to get done and does it
* BONUS – Certified in Standard First Aid and CPR.
We are looking for two different types of leaders:
Primary Green Team Litter Leader (reiterates key parts of safety talk to smaller groups, leads round of introductions, leads the front of group)
- Secondary Green Team Litter Leader (supports the Primary, stays at the back of group to ensure no one falls behind)

Responsibilities
- Lead a group of 5-20 community members along designated routes in at least 2 litter cleanups that will run between June and December 2024
- Reiterate key parts of safety talk and lead round of introductions of group members (Primary Green Team Litter Leader)
- Supervise and keep group members safe throughout litter clean up activities
- Ensure community members feel welcome and are having a positive, fun experience
- Use own phone/camera to take quality photos and videos of everyone in action
- Share photos and videos taken on the same day of the activity
- Assist with set up and take down at the activity
Why Be a Green Team Litter Leader?
Green Team Litter Leaders will:
- Contribute to taking care of the environment and empower others to do the same

- Gain hands-on experience leading a group of people in making a tangible environmental impact

- Receive a volunteer/reference letter on request
- Receive a certificate outlining their completed training and leadership once they’ve attended a minimum of 2 litter cleanups

Time Commitment
12.5+ hours spread out between June-December 2024. Exact hours depend on the number of litter cleanups attended (minimum of 2 required) and timing depends on litter cleanup schedule. Expected breakdown of hours:
1-2 hrs virtual Green Team Litter Leader training session (completed once)
20-45 min virtual training for each of the specific activities you will help lead
- 5-6 hrs on the day of a litter cleanup
- 1 hr in person training (only needs to be completed once)
- 45 mins help with setting up
- 3.25 hrs litter cleanup activity
- 30 min help with packing up
- 10-30 min to share photos and videos
