Quarry Park May 11, 2019

The Greater Victoria Green Team, Friends of North Saanich Parks and District of North Saanich organized a volunteer event at Quarry Point Park where we removed English Ivy to help revitalize this forested habitat!

Thank-you to everyone for participating: Adil, Andre, Barbara, Benjamin, Connie, Evelyn, Jarrett (and his two sons!), Jimin, Mruduls, Padraic, Qianfan, Riley and Zengton! Also Ashlee, the coordinator for the Friends of North Saanich Parks!

Thank you very much to the District of North Saanich for partnering with the Green Teams. Thank you for recognizing the importance of collaboration and partnership! Your support made it all possible.

Thank you to our in-kind sponsors for providing thank-you gifts to our volunteers: West Coast Seeds for providing veggie and flower seeds and LUSH for providing lots of goodies! Plus our granola bars were donated by the awesome Nature’s Path

  • 17 volunteers participated and contributed 45 volunteer hours!
  • 13 volunteers had never been to Quarry Park before
  • 8 volunteers had never remove English Ivy before
  • We removed 6 cubic metres of invasive plants!
  • We got to see a hummingbird close up who seemed to be looking for flowering plants and flew nearby
  • We removed a small but growing patch of invasive Blue Bells. One of our volunteers is interested in monitoring the area and removing any re-growth this year! Thanks to Connie (and others) for helping with that
