The Greater Victoria Green Team removed an assortment of invasive plants from Gulf View Park in North Saanich. We uncovered a variety of native plant species during the work – native strawberry, Indian-plum, honeysuckle, oregon grape and others!

Highlights
- 16 GVGT volunteers participated and contributed 47 volunteer hours
- 12 volunteers were introduced to Gulf View Park
- 3 volunteers had never removed English Ivy before!
- We removed 7 cubic metres of invasive plants including Daphne, Ivy and a bit of Holly!
- 5 volunteers came from Saanich, 6 from Victoria, 1 from Sooke, 1 came from Colwood, 1 from Central Saanich and 2 from Oak Bay
- We removed the invasive plants from an area measuring approximately 450 square metres
- 2 volunteers are international students from Japan and wanted to participate in an environmental volunteer activity! It was there first time doing such a thing!!
- We spent time looking at native Trailing Blackberry and determining the differentiating characteristics from the invasive blackberry. A few characteristics of trailing blackberry include: round stem, three leaves growing from main stem, smaller thorns, trails on the ground and stays smaller, plus there is a white dusty look on the native stem.
