UVic Mystic Vale September 29, 2018

The Greater Victoria Green Team coordinated the first of many more GVGT volunteer activities in Mystic Vale. In total 29 volunteers came together to remove a ton of English Ivy (approx. 8 cubic metres in total) from this habitat located at the University of Victoria.

Thank-you to all of the amazing people for making a big difference and participating: John, Conway, Brian, Ricardo, Natan, Montana, Ashley, Qi Shen, Moauju, Jingrui, Juan Marcos, Genie, Katherine, Isobel, Yukino, Ryoko, Elijah, Kumiko, Haiping, Sumin, Ophelia, Niraj, Kanae, Will, Jutian, Wylie and Deia.

Thank you so very much to the University of Victoria’s Sustainability Office for making this activity possible. Your funding contributes to community engagement and stewardship of Mystic Vale! Find out more about UVic’s Sustainability Office here: https://www.uvic.ca/sustainability

Thank you to LUSH Cosmetics for providing great bath items, and Earth Rated for providing eco-friendly dog bags as thank you gifts to our hardworking volunteers!

Amazing Team!

  • 29 GVGT volunteers were engaged and contributed 112 volunteer hours
  • 21 of the volunteers had never been to Mystic Vale Woods before
  • 21 of the volunteers had never removed English Ivy before
  • We revitalized an area measuring approx. 250 square metres!
  • We removed approx. 8 cubic metres of English Ivy from the site (which involved carrying good sized loads up the ravine and stairs – great workout for all of us!)
  • A group of volunteers from UVic’s annual Project Serve came to participate! They had awesome Volunteer t-shirts and brought lots of energy and passion!
  • Volunteers were from all over the world – Isreal, Brazil, Mexico, Japan, Taiwan, China, and Korea to name a few!

What volunteers said about their experience

This is my first volunteer, I have met many new friends and I felt a sense of accomplishment.

A great time with nature.
